AN EPIC VOYAGE
The band came together in 1975 as George, Mark, and Linc discovered Carl drumming for a Boston-area club band. They renamed the band Kelakos to honor George’s family heritage.
Kelakos played hundreds of gigs in the mid-70s, in Boston, then metro New York, then upstate New York, while writing and recording in Ithaca, New York. After releasing and promoting Gone Are the Days, the band members pursued their own paths. In 2015, thirty-seven years later, the studio tapes were remixed, re-mastered, and released digitally and on CD.
Kelakos Uncorked: Rare Tracks from a Vintage 70s Band won critical praise. Goldmine gave it 4 stars, calling it a “rock ‘n roll gem”, while CBS Boston’s Classic 1007. WZLX named Kelakos “the best Boston band you’ve never heard”.
After the band went its separate ways in 1978, George just kept on writing, playing, and recording dozens of original songs. Carl produced albums by several notable bands while recording and touring worldwide with The Rods. Mark worked as a music equipment professional and developed his interest in playing pedal steel. Linc held positions in the government, performing charity concerts with a DC band of officials along with Jeff “Skunk” Baxter of Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan renown.
